In the Garden with Edith

Like most butterfly farmers, Edith’s passion for butterflies grew from a single experience – watching a butterfly lay eggs on her herbs.  After discovering a wasp harvesting the eggs, she brought the plant into her house for safe keeping. Her fascination with watching the lifecycle and wanting to learn more led to a hobby that soon turned into a thriving family business, Shady Oak Butterfly Farm.

Edith’s passion for sharing what she learned through her butterfly journey prompted her and several others to form AFB.  She retired from farming in 2015 but remains a beloved butterfly expert and industry leader in education.
