Walt Clark Middle School located in Loveland, Colorado created an amazing butterfly sanctuary with student volunteers, community help from the Associated Landscape Contractors of Colorado and Association for Butterflies mini-grant.
The Butterfly Sanctuary has been a great success, and the students have gotten very involved in the Monarch Migration project. The school successfully raised a total of ten butterflies, which were tagged as part of the Monarch Watch project out of the University of Kansas. The students are anxiously awaiting spring to see if any of their tags are found down in Mexico.
An unexpected opportunity for teaching arose with another pollinator this late fall.
